New color and decor ideas?
We painted the rest of our house in grays, with hues of green. This bright yellow half bath does not match the rest of the house. Need more toned down. Looking for paint ideas and how to decorate (there is a full mirror on the door). Not handy enough to change out or add new electrical stuff. Thanks for the help!

Do you love the artwork behind the toilet? It may sound dull - but a neutral color like white would show it off best and make the room look bigger. Or a light tan.
Go with the colors you've used in the rest of the house. Gray is a nice neutral.
Hi Janie! Have you considered simply painting your bathroom the color iyou've done in the rest of your home? OR painting most of the walls in that color, except the wall with the toilet and leave it the yellow?
Janie: OMG -- it's like we had twin bathrooms! Check out what I did last month to my bathroom!

Inexpensive Bathroom Re-Do ...in the Colorado Mountains
First, as this is a room of its own, you can really use whatever color you'd like. Pretty much everything goes with gray. Personally, as the room is so small, I would paint either white or a gray that goes with the rest of your decor and put up some wallpaper to tie everything together. You can use peel and stick wallpaper for ease of putting it up and taking it down when you tire of it. Doing just the wall opposite the door will be the least expensive and give you the most "bang for your buck".
Not knowing your style, here are pictures of peel and stick wallpapers with grays and white

Benjamin Moore Owl Grey looks great anywhere.
Hello Janie,
Why not Paint it all in Grey and add Green Accessories or add a white waist rail and paint below grey and above green, or The wall behind the toilet Grey and the rest green, or go all white and use grey towels and green accessories to blend in.
The great thing about half baths is that you can really have fun with the decor in there, let loose and try new things. But if you’d prefer it to match, repeat a color you’ve already used and change out fixtures that you feel comfortable with.
How about a lighter shade of the gray you used in the rest of the house?
Check out Sherwin Williams Sea Salt paint. I think that would go really well with what you have described. I would prime first to cut down on the amount of coats to cover. If the artwork doesn't "go" with the new color you can paint over the canvas.
I thought I was the only one on the face of this earth who painted their bathroom sun shine yellow, As soon as the area above the shower was painted, I saw I made a mistake in choosing that color. We had some left over pale lavender from a bedroom, that is what we used.
Benjamin Moore has a lovely peaceful color called Dove White. It has a slight, slight hint of mint green. I would prime that yellow, then paint the bathroom Dove White. Because it is basically neutral you could decorate with greenery, green, gray, white, black accent towels, a lovely grayish throw rug, (of course with a bold touch of something) and hopefully the existing fixtures will blend until you can get them replaced. And the Dove White will really open the space making it light and airy. (p.s. online sites such as angie's list or home advisors usually have ppl who will do electrical works, i.e. 2 hours electrical work for $99 or something. the light fixture and switches and plugs could def be changed in that amount of time.)
Hi Janie, you could go with a water colored blue in the bath, and do a forest them with decals or a lake & lodge type theme, you can also try using wallpaper border to add some theme to the room as well, and you can get shower curtains with anything on them! I attached a pic of my Bathroom

Stay away from green paints, the reflection is not good on skin!... agree with everyone, paint same or lighter shade you have in house. Bring in green through botanical prints, towels. Paint he mirror and sink bottom in either white or a darker shade than wall. Bring in a med wood stand that is narrower for your storage.
I think a nice sage green would look great in the bathroom. I have sage in my bathroom, and Love it. It does not alter the color of my skin. I use wine colored towels, and I love your red picture.
What about a light gray? That would tie in but not leave your bathroom dark.
We found that painting a bathroom is the perfect time for a new shower curtain and shelving unit. The color we ended up painting the bathroom was one of the colors pulled out the shower curtain itself.
Hi Janie, I love the bold beautiful art work you have in your bathroom. There's seems to be a hint of white in the painting? I would try and match that color and paint the walls. You can accessorize the towels and bathroom knicknacks to incorporate the vibrant colors in the painting
I did a small bathroom wallpaper post, https://www.simplenaturedecorblog.com/detailed-guide-how-to-wallpaper-a-small-bathroom/
almost any other color would be better! use a primer and if it's a small bath, keep to light colors.
Keep in mind that the type of lighting you have in your room can affect how the color on the walls appears. Incandescent lighting gives off a yellow/pink tone, florescent a green, and LED light bulbs can also vary from blue (cool) to yellow (warm).
My suggestion is to choose a neutral paint color, and to take a look at the color chip swatches under the different light types in a store display first, before painting.
Change the type of lightbulbs you have now to the LED type that makes your chosen paint color chip look like the color you would like to see on the walls when you go into the bathroom.
I would paint the room a softer color, such as white or a soft gray. Then, I'd either frame out the mirror in white or remove it and purchase a large mirror at Hobby Lobby that can go in that place. If you know someone handy, they could replace out the vanity lights and sink to upgrade them. Painting the vanity white or some other neutral color will brighten the space, too.
Thank you everyone for all the ideas. The painting is complete - went with the lavender gray, kept the white vanity and white framed mirror. I think the part people missed was I was reusing paint we had in the house from previous projects. We were under quarantine (yes, I had Covid. All good now thank God!). We aren’t very handy and are up to the decor. Feel free to show me ideas of things to hang on the walls . Thank you everyone!!!
Are you going to leave the same vanity color ? I would for sure change mirror and light up a bit some color on the walls
