Softer towels after washing them.
How can I get my face towels softer after I wash them? I really need to know how to soften towels as once I put them in the dryer they come out hard and stiff?

There can be lots of reasons for stiff towels. If they are older there could be a build-up of detergents, chemicals and minerals from hard water. Try washing them in hot water with a cup of vinegar.

I agree with Ann, try washing them with vinegar and no soap, see if that helps.

Hi! I have a low water, front loader and find with measured high efficiency detergent and a dryer sheet, mine are nice and soft. Too much detergent and liquid fabric softener can really build up. Try a white vinegar rinse instead of a fabric softener and you should notice a huge difference. Good luck!
Do not let the towels sit a long time in the washer and get partly dry before putting them in the dryer.
Do not let the towels sit a long time partly dried in the dryer before turning it on again.
Do not overload the washing machine with too many towels at one time.
are you using fabric softener like Snuggle or Downy? Not only do those brands make it smell amazing, it does soften the fabric well.
I use a vinegar rinse after the wash cycle, If I put the towels in the dryer, I use a fabric softener sheet and 2-3 tennis balls.
I use vinegar for mine and you can see my post about it here - https://chascrazycreations.com/natural-cleaning-with-vinegar/
I use regular detergent and dryer sheets. I've never had rough towels. I've also heard good things about wool dryer balls as a chemical-free option to sheets or softeners!
Most people say don't use fabric softener but I have always done so and have no issues with absorbency. Another option is to use vinegar in place of fabric softener.
Laura: Dryer sheets help. Also, I put three tennis balls into the dryer with the towels!
Something to consider that no one has addressed yet is how hard is your water source? If you would like all your laundry to come out softer, you may want to consider getting a water softener. Many folks find that with a water softener, not as much detergent or fabric softener (also, shampoo, and all types of soap cleaners) is required.
I pour a cup of white vinegar into the rinse cycle of my waher. It will help to remove the soap residue. I do not use dryer sheets on my towels as I feel it keeps them being as absorbent.
Try using white vinegar in the rinse water, or put baking soda in the rinse water. Fabric softener does a terrible job, and makes towels less absorbent
Hi Laura,
You should give your towels a wash with out any powder to remove ay built up reside.
Then use a Fabric softener to the rinse. Don't Dry your towels bone dry in the dryer. Take them out when they are a little damp and pull them into shape and let them air dry. Hope that helps.

Wash in cold water, use a cup of white vinegar in the bleach dispenser; and a cup of Baking soda instead of your regular detergent. you probably have a soap build up -- or even a build up of 'fabric softener' ... don't use that stuff -- it keeps towels from being as absorbent as they should be.
Add white vinegar to the wash
I use dryer sheets and makes everything soft
they say dryer sheets make towels less absorbent....lol, I use them too - I still manage to get dry!
