Decorate this wall?
Was thinking a mirror with plug in sconces to add lighting to the area??? I’m not even sure the shutters should remain. This is in my den, very relaxed area but also very dark.

Have you considered repainting the room to lighten it up? A mirror would reflect light making the room brighter. I like the shutters, but they need a little more. Maybe put lights/sconces on them? Here's a link for repurposing shutters, it may give you a few more ideas:

Hi Elizabeth, I think a mirror would love amazing in that space, with the shutters on either side. If you can make a window frame of some sort to go over the mirror and hang light from the frame (it could be fairy lights or even one of those old fashioned lantern lights) it will create a story too.
Hello-yes that sounds like an excellent solution, particularly the mirror.
With daylight savings time causing the early evening darkness- log cabin wooden walls I have even resorted to fairy lights around windows frames and led flameless candles to add warmth and light.
I hope you settle on the perfect solution.
A mirror would look great in this area and could really brighten up the space.
A large piece of art that covers the whole area would look nice. Add a floor lamp for more lighting?
Hello Elizabeth,
First Change the colour of the walls to a much lighter colour. The Add a Mirror in between the shutters to look like a window, then Paint the Shutters a complimentary colour, or if you like the walls the colour they are - maybe Take the Shutters down and replace with a Large Colourful Canvas or Artwork.
Yeah, looks like a nice alcove. Along with adding more light, you might want to think practical too. Could you add a large desk there? I never think you can have enough desks. Add a hanging light over the desk. Or do what you wanted and add sconces. Might be nice to use that space. Another idea is to fill In with built in cabinets or bookshelves.

Nice little nook!
Was looking at the walls themselves and was wondering if you have paneling on them,. It is because I see lines from the top to the bottom. If they are panels take a look at where they join, would you consider filling them in and repainting. Do that before hanging a mirror.
Or instead of painting you could mirror the whole wall or hang a framed mirror.
I love adding built in shelves to alcoves like that. Storage and beauty combined!
I was thinking a wreath but if you need lighting, that would be nice. The mirror would reflect the light. Consider battery operated with a remote to avoid running a wire down the wall. I was surprised how long some of them last, you can even get some that are rechargeable.

I would first repaint in a lighter shade of gray, something like repose gray from Sherwin Williams. I think the shutters should go, replace with two small sconces and a small oval mirror. Kirklands, Home Goods and Ikea sell both and have large selections. Or a nice big clock would look great.
I like the idea of a mirror - and the lighted sconces should just go right on the shutters!
I don't think that these shutters add any attractiveness to the wall. They look unconnected, and make the area seem unfinished and temporary.
The dark wall color just swallows any light that there is in the corner, and does not make the space look very inviting.
My suggestion is to remove the shutters, paint the wall a lighter color, and add a mirror. See how much making these changes improves the room, then think about any other small decorations later.
why not sue the shutters to put photos on and then add a large photo in the center of the shutters?
Hello here's a link with sone options. Hope this helps
