Any Alternative for destroyed books due to Flood, now dried out but ?
Hello Crafters,
My fathers collection of 1930's hardback books have been destroyed by rain leak on to storage box. Have now dried them out, but many have hard covers disintegrated and pages stuck together in places so unreadable. As I am very upset this has happened, I am looking for a way to use them. I thought of Paper Mache, but wonder if there are any other ideas I might be able to consider (So I don't feel so guilty about my father treasured books). Help! Thanks in advance.

Search the DIY at the top left. Tons of ideas, ornaments, gift tags, cover a trunk then seal with polyurethane, do an entire floor, make a wreath by making paper roses with them, endless possibilities.
If there are any front covers that are particularly significant to you, or those that you may find particularly attractive (script letters, linen fabric, etc.) perhaps you could frame them in thicker frames, or shadow box frames.
Actually, I was amazed by this, look, just look at what you can do:

Best to you and your family.
So sorry about your flood and books. you can make beautiful things with old books - like book pages wreaths!
If you have covers that are still in fairly good shape, you could attach them to boxes so they still look like books on a shelf.

I agree with Ann! Vintage books have the best spines. Forget about the actual story or book inside when they are stuck together and ruined anyway. Use the spines as covers for your paperbacks on a shelf. Or like she said create book boxes.
Here is a tutorial on how to turn it into a box: (leave out the extras on decorating since the spines already look nice)

Many Many thanks for all the great and helpful messages regarding my fathers old books. It is a comfort to know there are friends out there willing to help in times of stress! Having saved all the books I can, I now have a lot that will need a Paper Mache project !
I am so sorry your keepsake was destroyed. What about salvaging some of the pages and modge podge them onto bins or boxes? Practical and you will still have a reminder of his passion.
