Flocked artificial tree
I have an old unlit tree that requires individual branches be install? I want to give life to old time tree by flocking tree with flock powder not spray paint. Is it ok to display flocked tree with outdoor lights added and fully exposed on a deck?

Hi Rhonda, You can update your old tree in various ways but I don't think the flocking would hold up very well ooudoors (depending on your weather). Here's some info and also a video

Hi Rhonda, I think that's a great idea to repurpose an old artificial tree! It should last for awhile out on your deck and do fine. I don't know how long flocking powder will last outside though, you may want to reconsider using spray paint instead just because it will hold up better to the elements. :)
The only part I would be worried about is the metal parts on the tree. They may rust after they are exposed to rain, humidity, etc. If you are able to find a tree that has the branch parts coated with plastic, that might help a bit.
it is but it if rains or gets really windy, it can de-flock some of it! make sure you use outdoor lights as well
Thanks for responding so quickly! I want to do my artificial wreaths too. I dont mind reflock this tree and wreaths as needed. The lights applied are outdoor lights. Is it okay to flocked with lights added?
Would it be easy to bring it if the weather is calling for rain or even worse snow or ice? That may help. Or cover it with a tarp during bad weather. If you aren't worried about reflocking it, it should work.
I don't think the flocking will last outdoors exposed to the elements.

HOME DEPOT CARRIES IT.
I used Homax texture spray on my old tree. Actually I took the branches and made wreaths for my friends. The texture spray can be purchased at Lowes, or Home Depot. Comes in 3 different textures. I bought the one that had the most texture for a ceiling. Came out beautiful
Good question. I would think spray paint would hold up best......
Hopefully someone has experience with flocking products.
Hello there,
My only concern would be that the lights would have to be for Outside and voltage was not too high.
I don't have experience of Flocking myself, but I would not think it was a problem if done properly.
Hi Rhonda, I think the real flocking is weather proof once it sets, so here are a few vids to help you out, Lightly mist a section at the top of the tree with your spray bottle of water. Scoop up some of the flocking powder into your strainer and sift it onto the damp tree from above. Then spray the flocked section of the tree with water again. The water activates the adhesive, fluffs up the flocking, and seals it all.

Hi Rhonda. I think it would be just fine to flock your outdoor tree. Follow the instructions on the can of flocking. It should also be fine to work with your outdoor lights.
The powder might blow/wash off in the elements
As long as the porch is covered it should be ok maybe scotch gard it so it stays protected
Just be prepared for a very dirty tree when you take it down. I would use the orange peel spray to flock it. It will do much better than the flocking spray.
Ensure lights are rated for outdoors. The flocking may be damaged, but you can redo it next year.
if the flock powder the same stuff on a flock tree you buy in a store it should be ok outside on porch.
I have a flocked wreath on my front door, it's not under an eave or awning and it's held up fine in the elements...rain and snow. Some of the the flocking does dust off, but not much.
It may hold up as we have a flocked wreath that is outside and some of it comes off, but still looks great
My sister used the spray orange peel. It was beautiful.
