The fabric will need to be removed and replaced. Use the original fabric as a pattern to cut your new fabric. The outside may just need cleaning - if it' wood, it can be refinished or painted.
Hi Gini, when you are redoing the box there are a lot of great paints to do that now. Just make sure your box is made from wood. A lot of the 60s/70s boxes were very thick cardboard with paper overtop. If that is the case, just be aware that paint may bubble the paper with its moisture.

Hi there,
You can fix the material with Mod podge. or it could be a Baize like fabric which can be purchased on eBay or craft shops.
If you are just restoring it should be fairly easy. Is the surface wood or fabric?

Removing the old fabric in one piece will allow you to use it a pattern to cut replacement fabric.
Hi! I always start by cleaning and repairing. If it needs a complete refinish, strip it down and refinish to the finishvypu want. Old jewelry boxes often used velvet for lining. Odds are the old fabric is glued
In. You can often pry and pull it off in one piece. A velvet remnant is fairly inexpensive. Or consider a pretty fabric. Glue the new fabric in, and it's as good ad new! Good luck and stay safe!

This would be tedious but very rewarding. The fabric can be replaced with felt and glued down. You can purchase a replacement for the music box as well.
Maybe look up photos of how it used to look and try to copy that
