DIY Woven Light Fixture
I really wanted to see what a woven light shade would look like in my kitchen but didn't want to invest in buying a whole fixture. So I turned a basket into one for just $40! I love simple projects with high impact!
Heres the fixture I had before...
You’ll need a woven basket that looks good upside-down. Lots of styles and shapes would work! You also need a pendant light kit.
Inexpensive $13 light kit used here
Basket I used from Target here
I removed the extras like these leather handles. I was able to trim them off with scissors.
And the feet with my multi-tool/Oscillating saw.
Then I simply separated the weaving enough to wedge my light kit through the bottom of the basket. To secure it I tied it with the same twine that was removed from the feet. Black zip ties would work as well. Its not heavy so it should hold nicely.
Then, install the light fixture as you normally would...
And you have a unique $40 woven light fixture! I really liked the natural element this added to my kitchen.

Great idea and you did a fantastic job. You have inspired me to do something similar to our overhead light above the dining room table. We removed the glass opaque bulb cover and now have a bare bulb. The base above it is circular so I'd have to adapt and make it fit just below the ceiling fan. It should allow more light than the bulb cover.
Many thanks. Just terrific.

this is great but I'd love to get more information on the hood over your microwave. Is that a DIY project? Looks amazing
