DIY Valentine’s Pom Pom Wreath
I am obsessed with anything with pom-poms. Therefore, I thought, why not make a pom-pom wreath for Valentine’s Day? The easy part was using the heart wreath form I had on hand. I could not wait to create the wreath and decorate my mantel for Valentine’s Day. I share how to make the perfect pom-pom HERE.

However, I did not have the four colors of yarn I wanted to use. I searched for inexpensive yarns that were the same weight on the internet. To my delight, I found the perfect yarns. Now it was time to plan how to make a heart-shaped pom-pom wreath.

How to Make a Pom Pom Wreath:
Since wire wreath frames can be any size or shape, I decided to use a heart-shaped one for Valentine’s.
Note that the larger the wire wreath frame, the more pom-pom you will need to make.
Supplies and Tools
- Light pink yarn
- Hot pink yarn
- Cream yarn
- Red yarn
- Pom-pom makers (these are the ones I used)
- Scissors
- Wreath form
- Ribbon
- Wire cutters
I wanted to update my Valentine’s decor with pinks, reds, and cream. I usually use only red and white, but this year I tried to lighten it up since we spend so much time at home. Something new and fresh is just what we needed. I purchased this heart-shaped wireframe with the hope of making something new.
Pom-pom yarn Planning the Pom Pom Placement How many pom poms did I need to cover this wireframe?
My daughter, Olivia, had a bin filled with pom-poms she made for another project, and I thought I could use them to determine how many pom poms I needed. It appeared that I needed 40. Next, I divided the 40 by the number of yarn skeins I was using to determine that I needed 10 of each color. So I set out to make them all the same size, and I just felt like it needed different sizes, so I started making 5 of each size from each skein of yarn.

Making Pom-poms:
My next step was to make all my pom-poms ( these are pom-pom makers I used). Once I made all 40 pom-poms, I started attaching them. You see my easy how-to video HERE.
Pom pom makers
I left the ties long enough to use to attach my pom-poms to the heart wreath form ( I used this form). I wanted to start in the center with a red pom-pom. Then I placed the pom-pom where I wanted it on the front side of the frame, then pulled the ties to the backside and tied them together.
Attach the pom-poms to the wireframe.
Then I cut the ties close to the knot ( I used these scissors).
Trim yarn from the backside of the wreath. Now for the fun part — adding the rest of the pom-poms. It turned out I needed a few more pom-poms, and I decided to use this size pom-pom maker for those.
No wreath is complete without a bow, so I made a simple one loop bow out of a cream ribbon.
DIY Valentine’s Mantle Decor Reveal The wreath was made using the same yarn as Olivia (you can see more at Oliviaohern.com) to make the gorgeous heart garland. Olivia also made three yarn hearts to tie to the candlesticks on the mantel.
The DIY bows on the lanterns are one of my favorite types of bows to make.

Now for those amazing bloggers’ inspiration: Hearts, I wanted to share my daughter’s first since she worked on the fireplace project with me. Olivia made the hearts using her template you can download and use to make this gorgeous heart banner.
These yarn wrapped hearts were made by Olivia using the same yarn I used for the wreath.
