Everyone Needs an Amazing Desk!!
We were looking for the 30s-40s era teacher's desk like this one at a decent price. I found one in the local classifieds in decent condition for a really great price. It fits perfectly in my daughters' room, but it was kind of dingy and needed some pizzazz!
We settled on a shabby chic look and decided to paint it using Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in Old White! This is, I believe their most popular color. Rustolium chalk paint is available in this color and a ton of others as well. A great alternate if you cant find annie Sloan.This desk was a mid-tone yellow and Brown Maple. It was nice, but not what I was looking for. To start, coat number one went on well, but there was some bleed through in some small areas. An easy fix is Shellac! The charming keyholes on these antique desks are a nice detail. It's too bad we don’t have the keys :(
To jazz it up with a little paint surprise, the interior drawers were finished in Antoinette, a lovely soft pink. How lovely is the combo of Old White and Antoinette? I adore it and was perfect for decorating with the shabby chic style I was trying to achieve.Beautiful light pink inside the drawers completely changes this. Now were designing in with Shabby Chic Style
We came across a vintage school chair as well, which received the same treatment.
After a few coats of wax to preserve the finish, this is the end result. The perfect size for a little girl, with room to grow. Let us know what you think in the comments :)
