I've always stenciled my lampshades with acrylic craft paint and a small foam dabber. I made sure I'm careful with the amount of paint I use so there's no excess that runs over and causes blurred edges on the fabric. I haven't tried this method but it uses a sharpie marker. https://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/rooms/stencil-a-lampshade-with-a-sharpie-marker-1932244

Based on my personal experiences chalk, fabric, or acrylic paint will most of the time, work best depending on the material used to make the lampshade. While chalk paint is perfect for an aged antique look; fabric paint works best to provide solid appearance to the fabric lampshades.

Since lamp shades are round, I would look for a flexible stencil that you can wrap around the shade and keep in in place with maybe poster putty. Then get a stencil brush and paint away!
Thank you all for the help and suggestions of painting a lamp shade. I'm getting the courage to attempt this project.

Use a paint that’s appropriate for the shade’s material (fabric paint for fabric for example) and use as little paint as possible to avoid over-wetting the shade.
Again, thank you all amazing crafters. I am going to give it a try once I finish with my wreaths. You have all be sooooo helpful. Thank you again.
