Black and White DIY Art
This black and white DIY artwork was quick, easy, and inexpensive….and black and white are so popular right now!
Have you ever tried to make your own DIY artwork?
I started DIY’ing artwork after we bought our first house. There were so many bare walls and little money.
For my first DIY art project, I took a tablecloth my mother-in-law gave me. It was an embroidery tablecloth her mother made. It was slightly stained, and I didn’t think I would ever use it.
I saw an HGTV episode on using fabric stiffener to use on fabric for art projects. Let’s say you should have seen my mother-in-law’s face when she saw her mother’s tablecloth on our wall.
Believe me when I say you don’t have to be an artist to have artwork on your walls….
I also made these pictures out of a bird calendar. The frames came with a standard mat, but I wanted to make it look more finished. I added a brown ribbon around the mat to give the illusion of a double mat.
To make the black and white prints, all you need is paper and a pair of scissors to get the job done. I also had a little help from a couple of paper punches, but they are definitely unnecessary.

Cut the white card stock to fit the size of your frame. I cut three
This is where your creativity begins. Have fun and make up the designs. It is amazing what can be done with varying size squares, rectangles, circles, and triangles.
Next, I cut a variety of different size circles and squares. Then I modified them by cutting the shapes again into triangles and ovals. The sky is the limit, and there is no right or wrong.
I did not have a preconceived pattern in mind before I started. It just happened as I was cutting my shapes.
I believe an important part of DIY artwork is making sure your frame is of substance. A nice frame and mat will nicely accent your artwork.
