How much sun is too much for hibiscus?
We are entering the really hot days of summer near Palm Springs. Would my hibiscus prefer morning or afternoon sun and for how long? Thanks

Hi Carrol, hope this helps you out, try for 8+ hours of direct sun, daily. While they can sometimes tolerate a bit of partial shade, the blossoms won't be quite as frequent or impressive, so if you're planting your hibiscus in the garden, make sure it's in a spot that isn't going to get shaded by tall trees or a nearby fencing, etc.
Be sure to give your tropical hibiscus lots of sun. In fact, the more direct sun they get, the better they'll bloom. At least 6 to 8 hours is optimal for prime flowering, but you can grow them in a little more shade (if you don't mind seeing fewer flowers over the summer).
They like full sun. Here's a link:

This is info about a hardy hybiscus not the tropical type. They need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight and they are hardy to zone 4 or 5.
The big key seems to be the amount of water they require. At least 1 gallon a day and in the summer heat up to 2 gallons per day.

How Much Sun Does A Hibiscus Plant Need?
Hibiscus plants can take full Florida sun as long as they are well watered. 6 hours of sun seems to be the sweet spot. If you allow your plant to get at least that amount you should see plenty of blooms.

Hi Carrol, a hibiscus can handle quite a bit of full sun. Ours thrives in a very sunny spot. I do find that we need to water it every day when it's really hot. They normally grow in humid, tropical areas so don't let the soil dry out.
here is some info they like full sun since they are tropical plants but you just need to be sure they don't get completely dried out
