Advice regarding dumping E-Waste from my backyard?

Hi All

Hope you are fine

I,m here with you to seek some help regarding my backyard waste removal. As my backyard is filled with electronics hazards like CFL, Tube, and some electronics capacitors. I have stored the waste temporarily in a box on the corner of the backyard, as the box gets filled and need to dispose of them safely otherwise it can cause serious health hazards.

Normally, I dump all the wastes in a dumpster bin. But I doubt whether the bin rental companies will collect hazardous wastes or not. How do you people dispose of the hazardous waste?

Thank you for wanting to do the right thing with your electronics.

For your CFL's contact your local waste collection agency, they vary.

The capacitors, if still attached to the motherboard, need to be removed, to do this take pointed tin snip and cut them off or solder the points and remove. They then need to be taken to a chemical waste landfill that can handle PCB waste, you'll have to research this in your area.

Printer cartridges can be recycled at the store, such as Office Depot, Staples...

We also have a specific drop off at our local landfill. I would give your county offices a call for more information. They may even have a crew that would just come out and collect them for you.

Check with your local health department. Ours has an event day twice a year where you can dispose of items like this as well as old paint cans and other items.

Another thought on electronics is to check with Best Buy. They have a recycling drop bin as you go in for old phones (I think they convert to emergency 911 phones for battered & abused shelters) but they might be able to point you in a direction as well.

Home Depot & Lowe's in our area have CFL disposal bins as well.

Type in HAZARDOUS WASTE REMOVAL into your browser along with the area you live in. Also call local officials to see when and where to dispose of properly. We have no idea where you live.

Hi Rechard, check with your municipality, many have Eco stations, and if no Eco stations, often hazardous items can be brought to town hall or fire stations, or some other set up. and it it usually always free!

If you live in a city, check out their website. Ours has a form to be filled out and an appointment can be made for the City to pick up the hazardous materials at a specific time. They ask that the materials be placed in a box outside your home/garage and labeled as "hazardous" and they'll pick up.

Perhaps a google search such as "How to dispose of hazardous materials in" and your specific town/county will result in an answer for you.

We have a local second hand business that recycles electronics for free. Just take them down and they handle the rest. You might make some phone calls and see who does that in your area.

But it sort of depends on what exactly you have and are calling hazardous waste. Twice a year our local dump has hazardous waste days for free disposal of your stuff.

Hello. Normally local community municipalities have hazardous waste collections once or sometimes twice a year. Contacting your local agents might be suggested.

  • Places like Home Depot and Best Buy do take some stuff but check with them first. Check too with your local town hall/city waste removal/state for the best places to drop this stuff off at. See if you can find any environmentally friendly groups in your area, they might have tips too.

Hello. You may want to check with your local county for the recycle and hazardous waste collection program. Generally it is usually at least once a year in the states I have lived in.
