Use TSP to get off all the grease etc. Rinse well. Let dry. Sand well.
Here's a link with the best degreasers:

Regular degreaser that is wood safe first. Then TSP. If you have serious build up, a paste of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda for a scrub will work well, I use an old toothbrush to scrub.
Krud Kutter will go right through the grease.
The best way to clean kitchen cabinets is by thoroughly degreasing them using a heavy-duty degreaser. You can use liquid dish soap such as Dawn, Simple Green, M1 liquid deglosser, TSP, or you can use a product called Krud Kutter. A green Scotch-Brite pad works great to scrub all surfaces.
I just used soapy water to clean. But I also didn't need to sand - check this out: https://happydealhappyday.com/how-to-paint-kitchen-cabinets-without-sanding/

Hi! I'd like to add that cleaners like TSP and safer alternatives like Krudkutter are hard on your skin and eyes. Wear gloves. A scrub pad works as does a soft bristle brush for deep cleaning
I also use microfiber cloths for both cleaning and rinsing. Good luck!
Hot soapy water. Make sure all dirt and grease id removed. A light sanding and maybe a primer/sealer prior to painting Good Luck
TSP or a good cleaner degreaser. Clean well, rinse well. Let dry completely then lightly sand. Clean off all the dust from sanding before painting. Prep is everything.
I painted my kitchen cabinets white. Before painting I used a 50/50 mixture of denatured alcohol and water to clean the cabinets: https://momhomeguide.com/white-painted-oak-kitchen-cabinets-reveal/Good luck! 😃
I don't love chemicals, so we used Dawn with water and then sanded them a bit. Then we used a really good primer. The prep is the key to painting cabinets.
