I love anything chalkboard and I knew that I wanted to use this as the foundation of my place setting.
I purchased black poster board from the Dollar Tree for $1 and cut it to the desired dimensions based on the dinnerware and graphic that I was using. The dimensions for the poster board placemat that I used was 12x15. These dimensions may change depending on the graphic that you select along with your dinnerware.
I selected an antler graphic to use that would wrap around the plate. The one that I found also had a banner design. I knew this would be perfect for adding a holiday message or adding the names of our guests. After, I printed the graphic, I made the necessary adjustments by enlarging the print on the printer to get the desired size to fit on the placemat. I left my dinnerware in the center to help me determine the correct size needed for my graphic. Once the graphic was the correct size, I turned it over and rubbed the back of the paper with chalk. I then turned the graphic over with the print side facing up and traced the graphic with a pencil. This transferred the chalk on the back of the graphic onto the poster board
Now that the graphic was outlined in chalk, I traced over the chalk outline with a white paint pen that I purchased from Michaels. I allowed the paint to dry and repeated outlining the graphic until I had a consistent coverage of paint.

For the merry and bright holiday message, I selected a font and printed the message. I used the same chalk transfer process as described above.
If you want to recreate my place setting, here is a picture of what I used and you can search for antler clip art on google. There are several to choose from. As you can see, this place setting did not have many elements. Since time is an issue for me now, I have to keep it simple and use what I have.
