Twig Christmas Tree Ornaments

Using twigs and a strip of cardboard these twig Christmas tree ornaments were pretty easy to make. We made them in mass quantity, ie: 30+ for our family Holiday party. We actually made a little ornament making party out of the whole project. Fun was had by all, maybe even too much, hahaha, or should I say hohoho!!
Anyways, aside from getting sore fingers from breaking all those twigs down to size, the

-We started by collecting twigs from the yard, trying to find twigs with a pencil sized diameter, give or take.
-To scare off the bugs, we preheated the oven to 200 (f) and baked the twigs for 45 minutes.
-Meanwhile, we cut strips of cardboard (from cereal boxes) to the size of about 6" x 1" and then poked a hole with a pencil at the top.

-Once twigs were "cooked", we separated them by length, so they would be easier to work with.

-Next we made a sample by lining up twigs from longer to shorter until it resembled a Christmas tree.
-Then we traced that one onto a piece of paper as a template.
-Then we started breaking the twigs, lining them up on the template; and then, transferring them to the cardboard strip and attaching the twigs with hot glue.
-The final step was looping a pipe cleaner through the hole and then twisting the longer end around a pencil, but any type of hanger can be used.

Next time use small pruning type scissors and cut your twigs...I did a candle by hand and changed to the scissors...much easier. For the trunk you could use twigs but place them vertically instead of horizontal. Just a thought.
