Vintage Sideboard Makeover...By The Numbers!

Using Americana Chalky Paints and Wax Finishes, I transformed a drab, brown country sideboard into a bright, funky piece.
This is the finished piece in our family room. All decked out in bright red and stenciled with the numbers 1 though 6 to identify the drawers!
This was the before piece. A dull, drab brown that sucked all the light from this focal wall in our family room.
I used a Golden Brown Creme Wax to color and add a finish to the top of the sideboard. This wax is simple to use, has no odor and is water based for easy cleanup.
This is the top before. The original had been replaced with these light pine planks. Now they are a soft golden brown with a glowing waxed finish.
I decided to leave the knobs brown...mainly because they were screwed and glued into place...making it virtually impossible to remove without breaking them or cracking the drawer fronts. Plus, they match the newly stained and finished brown top.
This is the door panel with the inset painted with blue paint, then crackled, plus a numbered stencil added for a touch of whimsy.
For the body of the piece, I painted on a coat of Americana Chalky Paint in Romance Red. Once I began painting, I realized that it was very, very bright red! I wanted it to be a bit more antiqued and rustic. But so I started to wipe some away, then noticed that it was leaving behind the perfect stained red wood color!
As I wiped the paint away, the grain and color of the wood showed through, creating the perfect red antiqued look I was going for anyway. For the complete tutorial, please check out my blog at http://countrydesignhome.com/2015/02/02/americana-vintage-sideboard-makeover/
This is the piece afterwards. Painted with Americana Chalky Paint in Romance Red for the body and Primitive for the drawers and door frames. The inside panels of the doors were painted with Chalky Paint called Serene and then crackled with Americana One Step Crackle Glaze.
