After many suggestions and thoughts, this is what we did !Be
Before....
Notice the mantel looks the same, but we did add more trim under to cover the odd brick that shows below.. The larger length of the mantel added a much better look I think. I could not paint real wood white its against my grain! All my other rooms have white trim, molding so this room must stay wood for now.
After.. for now !
Sorry, I did remove the insert and sold to someone who can use it. Removed the wallpaper, painted and planted a tree. Was going to use the old picture but when all was done, my mother gave me this painting a "Keane" which I have wanted sense I was a child. This was the last step and I know I need to update the picture framing to make it fit in.
This is a close up of the hearth that we added on, it covers the old tile, its larger and is made out of tile also. Its distressed wood look tile, I just love it ! Check out the detail on the edges.
This is the main picture of the whole fireplace it self, we have added length to the mantel, new hearth and most of all the fireplace. Not sure what it is called. It lights up with a remote, turns on different colors and comes with a heater if needed.
Close up of the hearth to show detail. Remember this is tile !

The fake fireplace lights so nice and just gives you this comforting, soothing feeling while in the room. Very romantic also.
This was the finished product until my mom gave the painting. I'm still moving

accessories around, trying to make it work. As you have all noticed the main picture has changed...
New painting, added later !
This is a much larger picture than the other, so I didn't have to move the other down as suggested. I just love this picture and even up this close you can't see that there is a lot of blue in it. Most of what looks (green) is blue tones all through the steps and even the moon. Still working on just minor things, placement of items.
