Many fellow DIYers have shared their versions of home built fire pits here on Hometalk. The designs and budgets seem to run the gamut from thrifty and basic to expensive and elaborate. I think ours lies somewhere in the middle. Fire pits are a great family friendly project that provides benefits for many years to come. Why not try building one this summer?
Our plan did not include elaborate digging or landscaping. We just picked a flat spot in the yard that worked best for us and began laying down two different types of concrete blocks in a circular pattern.
We did refer to some fire pit building plans provided by the store, although we merely used those plans as a guide. Once the first ring was complete, the second ring went right on top, and so on.
Landscape adhesive was used to glue the blocks together for the second and third rings.
Once the fire pit was complete we used pea gravel to cover the grass inside the ring.
If it seems easy, well, it was! There are a few more building details, of course. You can find them, and more, on the blog. If you've ever wanted to build a back yard fire pit, now's the time!
