DIY Wood Sandbox

Medium
We had been thinking about adding a play set in the backyard for the last couple of years. Our original vision was a play set with a built in sandbox. However, as we started looking around it quickly became apparent that the play sets in our price range had only small sandboxes. In our heads we had pictured something about double that size where our boys could spend hours digging and building whatever their minds could imagine. And so we began planning our DIY Wood Sandbox.
You'll find the full step-by-step tutorial on Kenarry: Ideas for the Home.
We decided to criss cross landscape timbers to create the walls of the sandbox. The first step is to identify and clear the area where you’d like the sandbox located.
Next it’s time to figure out where your first timber will go. To keep it square we ran some string between two posts and took measurements until the line was positioned where we wanted the front of the sandbox. Once you’ve got your string set up, position your first landscape timber underneath the string. Next, take your second landscape timber and position it perpendicular to the first timber. Continue with the remaining two sides.
Put down a weed barrier. Then build up the walls with landscape timbers securing each one with screws as you go. Once it's reached your desired height fill it with sand.
Then let the kids have at it and enjoy some outdoor fun this summer!
