Angie from The Painted Piano had her own custom color mixed up specially to transform a dresser into this stunningly unique bathroom vanity!
When some unfortunate circumstances forced us to need a replacement for our master bathroom vanity, I immediately knew I wanted to transform a dresser into a beautiful custom vanity.
As if it were meant to happen, a neighbor was getting rid of an old dresser just when I was looking for one, and it was EXACTLY the size I needed! He was getting rid of it because of water damage on the top. That was just fine with me, as we planned to replace the top with a quartz counter top regardless! It wasn’t in bad shape, but it needed a face lift for sure.
As I designed our new bathroom, I fell in love with the color Hazel by Sherwin Williams. Country Chic offers a WONDERFUL custom color matching service and I knew that’s just what I wanted!
Special ordering this color from Country Chic was a breeze. I gave them the name and number of the color I wanted, and within days my paint arrived, complete with a beautiful label made just for me!
I was so eager to paint the dresser and begin the transformation that I didn’t really do any prep work. Outside of wiping down the surface of any grime, I just dove right in! The paint went on so smoothly and offered enough coverage with just two coats.
When the paint had completely dried, I took 220 grit sandpaper to distress the edges just enough to give it that easy farmhouse look I was after. I paid special attention to the details on the drawers, to bring out the gorgeous scrolls and make them pop. I also went over the larger flat areas lightly and quickly to smooth the surface.
After the dresser was distressed, I wiped it down with a damp cloth to rid the surface of dust and began applying the Tough Coat. I used a simple sponge brush to apply one coat and I was done!

I’m not sure how, but somehow I lost the hardware in the midst of this transformation and all of our home improvements. But I think it turned out for the best because I actually LOVE the shiny silver and glass hardware I used in its place.
And that’s it! It was all ready for my husband and the plumbers to work their magic. I am absolutely in love with this transformation. Not too bad for a dresser destined for the dump!
