This dresser was a disaster! A while back I had decided to strip the dresser which was painted a yucky green. I stained it, but it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to look. The dresser sat for many years, I don't want to say how many years, but it was a long time.
Not too great looking, huh? I decided to use chalk paint on it, but I didn't want the whole dresser with chalk paint. See, I really wanted it to be stained. So, I mixed my own chalk paint using Ivory flat paint by Behr. I took the drawers out and took the handles off to paint separately. Once I had the bottom of the dresser complete I stained the top with Minwax Polyshades which is a stain and polyurethane combined.
I used two coats for the top to get it the color I wanted.
The Minwax was great! No sanding in between and I didn't have to strip the stain that was on there before staining again. It leaves it with a nice, smooth surface.
The final step was to seal the chalk paint with Anne Sloan's clear wax and then buff.
I am very happy with the results. Much better than that before photo, don't you think?
