My son's hand-me- down twin bed from his father's youth finally gave out after many years of use. I didn't have the heart to throw out this good strong maple wood and I loved the spindles and squared look so I turned it into a bench.
Cut the footboard in half, used my JKreg, 1x2's and Ix6's and assembled the footboard to the sides and boards as the seat with a board down the middle of the seat underneath for added support. DIY chalk paint and dark wax to finish it off. Next, I found this fabric at Joann's and made a cushion. Wish I could take credit for the pillows but for $5 a piece at Ikea, I couldn't resist the perfect match.
One of my favorite pieces to sit on by my window to read.
Bench without Cushions.
