My daughter found this end table at Homegoods but they only had one and she needed two. I took an old wood end table and turned it into something that would coordinate with the store bought one. This table has a faux stone top, not real stone. Looked like it was made with some sort of polymer material.

Homegoods Table

This end table was bought at a yard sale several years ago, but had been languishing in my daughter’s garage. I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and painted the legs with two coats of black primer paint. Let it dry overnight.

Next I spread a thin coat of spackle using a wide putty knife on the top. However, It was too smooth so bought a small can of white grout to mix in with the spackle. I used a cup and a half of grout and half cup spackle. On retrospect, I could have bought a colored grout for a deeper hue and/or started with that instead of just spackle. I used the grout/spackle mixture after the first coat dried overnight. Then let the second coat dry overnight. Spreading the mixture on the rounded sides was challenging, it kept falling off. Finally turned the table upside down and spread it on the sides, which worked.

Here is a closeup of the final coat. I did add some thin streaks of acrylic paint in gray and copper to give it more of a stone look.

I let it dry again overnight then sprayed the top with clear sealer giving it a smoother finish for easier cleaning. The finished product!

Aren’t you afraid of it chipping? Or does the sealer protect it from chipping?
