While out thrifting I found this midcentury modern dated chest of drawers.

I discovered it was a Bassett and those pieces typically have great bones.

This piece is well over fifty years old.

I want to encourage you to thrift an old piece and paint it versus buying something from a big box store that you have to assemble and it’s not even real wood.

I promise that you can do this yourself. I learned by watching many YouTube videos of furniture painting and the first piece I ever painted was a night stand.

Start small and build that confidence. If I can do it anyone can!

I got a little side tracked there but back to this project…

Once I prepped this piece I sanded down the drawers. I used Behr Decorative Chalk paint in Canyon Dusk to paint the entire base. This took a couple coats.

Finally I just had to decide on a stencil to adorn those tip drawers. Stenciling can set a piece apart from the rest and can just had that extra little touch. Plus I’m always extra.

I chose this stencil. I got a variety pack of them on Amazon. You can find this stencil linked here in my Amazon shop and it’s affordably priced.

*I have an Amazon affiliate link but you do not pay any extra and I make a small commission.

After I stenciled my pattern I used Wise Owl salve over both the wood and the paint to seal it for added protection.

In this picture you can see the top drawer with salve and the one below isn’t yet.

It really enriches the color of both the paint and the wood! Easily one of my favorite products as a furniture painter.

Here’s the final look - fresh and updated with a boho vibe.

Love that color. Fits MCM furniture. I like the stencil but my choice would have been the geometric one. Still looks great.
