Garden Tool Storage Idea for Garage
If you are frustrated with the lack of efficiency of the store bought yard tool storage ideas like I am- this post if for you. I have tried out 4-5 different storage ideas from small sheds to the ones that allow the tools to hang vertically. What resulted was either a pilled up mess OR most of my wall space wasted with inefficient storage solutions.
I finally did some research and created a design to help organize your garden tools in your garage that is 300% + more efficient than the ones sold in big box stores. I've created a video to accompany the steps listed below.

All of the steps below are in this video for your convenience.
Tools needed to get started
I created this design and demonstrated in the video the cuts and assembly using common power tools. Advanced drilling and cutting with a drill press and miter saw could work in place of the drill and jigsaw.

Marking and Layout
I used (4) 2 x 4's that were 10' long. For your project, use 2 x4's and cut them to be 4" shorter than the height of the space you plan to install the rack. I used a speed square to set the angles and a straight edge to mark the offset for the drill.

Pre-drill each cut
Once the holes are drilled use a jigsaw to do the rest of the cutting.

Cut the rest of the slots and get supports ready

Assemble the pieces
The supports/ ledgers allow for the assembly to be installed on the walls without having to worry about the stud locations. This design has a piece at the top that will have screws that go directly into the double top plate.

Attached the support board to the wall
Once you locate the studs you can use any part of the ledger to attach to the wall and it will hold up the full assembly.

Organize the tools and enjoy
I was able to get over 30 tools on the wall which is 300% more than you can get with the racks you get from big box stores.

The tools can go all the way to the ceiling for maximum storage

Several hometalkers asked about the rest of the garage organization so will be posting new videos over the next few weeks as the rest of the garage comes together. Here is a post on organizing my electrical toolbox. https://www.hometalk.com/diy/organize/garage/organizing-electrical-toolbox-44290980

Thank you! You are awesome. This will help out myself, among so many others! I admire your dedication to solving this widespread issue of wasted /inefficient use of space, especially when it comes to things like tool storage! My grandfather's entire garage would be half the father's! size if he did this, same with my fathers! Mine however will be smart, efficient, and less wasteful like this! Imagination and dedication are wonderful at inspiring innovation!
