How To Make A Dollar Store Halloween Hat

As many of you already know, I absolutely love browsing the Dollar Tree in search of unusual items to use for crafting. Many of my fun crafts can be seen on my Facebook page- Gilbert Marketplace. So today, I came across the best item to be used for some Halloween witch hats- yep traffic cones! Check out what I did.

Things I used for my hat are

Rick rack white

ribbon 4” 1 yard for brim

glue sticks

construction cones ( toy Dept)

ribbon

scissors

plastic spider

Flat black spray paint for plastic

Flower pick

You can find traffic cones like these in the kids section of the dollar store. I got these 2 for $1!

I picked up this flat black paint at Walmart, and it works great on plastic.

Then I sprayed a nice even coat of paint all over the cones.

Then comes a fun part! I picked up some 4” black polka dot wired ribbon (make sure you use wired ribbon!) all you need is one yard. I began by gluing the ribbon to the corner of the cone's bottom lip.

Then I started gluing the ribbon around the rim, pleating the ribbon as I went.

Once you get to the end of the roll, tuck the ribbon under so you don't see the cut edge.

Add some glue to the end also to keep the rolled edge down.

Next add some decorations to the rim of the hat. I used a fall flower pick and a bow.

I also glued a spider on the top of the hat and it looks so cute!

Next I used a wood candle stick I had on hand, and set the hat on top. It looks so great!

It’s so fun a festive!
