Upcycled Telephone Stand

This is an old telephone stand that I had for the longest time. I finally decided to give it a well-deserved makeover.
It was old, chipping and not very attractive. I always loved it because it reminded me of the old telephone stand that my aunt's rotary telephone sat on, complete with little drawer to keep the handwritten telephone book.
Veneer was cracked, I took off the top pieces and sanded the whole thing. The old stand had cracked and broken plastic strips around the sides. Those came off easily with my hand sander.
I painted the whole thing with a bright turquoise indoor/outdoor paint/primer. I went to Home Depot and got one of those little sample jars. It covered with 1/2 a jar left over.
I knew I would be putting terra cotta pots on this, so I painted all the edges with an outdoor acrylic paint that matched the pots.
Then I sanded them down by hand to leave some of the paint.
I painted flowers on my terra cotta pots with outdoor acrylic paints. I decided that the little drawer needed some flowers too.
I didn't take photos of the distressing process, but I rubbed in some wood stain (color Red Oak) on the whole thing and quickly rubbed off excess. I created a beautiful distressed look to the whole thing.
Finished product. I wish it would have been earlier in the day when I took these end pics. It was getting dark outside. I am so happy with the way this turned out.
