Father’s Day is just around the corner. What better gift for dear Dad than a personalised drawing engraved into wood? To create this cool gift, all you need is a wood burning tool and a panel of MDF wood. Design something that sums up his personality and start wood burning! Unleash the pyrographer within and produce a wonderful creation using the steps below.

Step 1

Sketch out your design on paper first.

Step 2

Next, copy your design onto the MDF panel.

Step 3

Screw the narrow tip onto the wood burning tool and plug into a power socket. Wait a few minutes until the tool heats up.

Step 4

Carefully trace over the pencil lines on the panel. The longer you burn on a spot for, the deeper and darker the mark will be.

Step 5

Wait until the tool has cooled down, then replace the tip with a fatter one.

Step 6

Colour in the drawing by lightly burning within the lines. An uneven pattern enhances the wood effect and gives the MDF panel a playful feel.

Step 7

Rub out any pencil marks before surprising your Dad with his personalised gift.
