Easy DIY Wreath
by | Sep 16, 2021 | DIY, Handmade |
Between now and January – it is wreath season. There are wreaths of all kinds. The variety can make your head spin. Me? I like easy DIY wreaths. Preferably, a wreath that isn’t too complicated. One that doesn’t require fancy materials. One that does break the bank when you go to buy supplies. One that can be assembled in less than an hour. Oh yes – and it needs to look good.
Good news! This easy DIY wreath meets all those criteria. If you are still reading – then let’s jump in.
Supplies:
- A Medium Density Fiber Board (MDF) wreath form. This one was 12 inches. I got it from Michaels but you can order them from Amazon.
- Acorns. If you gather them from outside – make sure you bake them in the oven at 200 degrees for about an hour. Sometimes, there are creepy crawlies living in the acorns. Don’t ask me how I know this. You can also order very-real-looking but fake acorns from Amazon.
- Small pine cones. Again, Amazon is our friend. However, you can usually find them at your local craft store. – Metallic gold spray paint. I used Krylon. I already had it in the house. I believe I bought it from Michaels.
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks. Again, I already had these on hand. I figure most crafters are going to own a hot glue gun and glue sticks. It’s just in our DNA. In the event you are new to wreath making – you can buy a glue gun and glue sticks at any craft store. Target and Walmart also sell them. Yes – and of course- from Amazon.
- An old plastic container you no longer need. It should be fairly small and shallow. Again, I had this readily available.
Wreath Assembly
Now for the fun part. Let’s make a wreath!
1. Fill your plastic container with water that’s about 3 inches deep.
2. Lightly spray the gold paint on top of the water. Here is an insider tip – do not spray on too much paint. This works best when only a little paint is sprayed on top of the water.
3. Dip your acorns into the water. When you pull them up, they will be lightly coated with paint. Repeat this for about 40-50 acorns. Repeat this same process for 3 small pine cones.
4. Let the acorns and pine cones dry. I waited all of 20 minutes for them to dry. I probably should have waited longer but let’s be honest – I am impatient.
5. Hot glue the acorns to the wreath form. Continue gluing acorns around the entire wreath form. At the very end, add on the 3 pine cones.
6. Find a nice ribbon and hang up your easy DIY fall wreath. Congratulate yourself on a job well done!
