Celebrating May Day With May Baskets
Do you celebrate May Day? Where I grew up it was customary to give flower baskets to your neighbors. So I thought it would be fun to teach my granddaughters how to make a May Day Basket.
Making May Day baskets is easy and fun! It's the perfect way to celebrate the beginning of spring and the first day of May.
Start with a sweet little basket. It is nice to use a basket with a handle so you can hang it on the door knob.
Collect a bouquet. The girls and I cut all of these out of our garden.
Use a baggie and some wet paper towels. Create a small bouquet out of the flowers, wrap the stems with soaking wet paper towels, then place the bouquet stems into the baggie, zip it up as much as you can, and place it inside of the basket.
Using a pretty ribbon, creat a bow and attach it to the handle of the flowers.
Now you are ready for delivery. We wanted to surprise the neighbors, so we would hang the flowers on the doorknob and run. Of course this was also so fun for the girls.
