A burr puzzle, also known as an interlocking puzzle, consists of notched pieces of wood, plastic or metal that when put together creates a three-dimensional shape. This wood version is pretty simple and therefore relatively easy to make. It consists of 12 pieces of which 11 of are identical. The 12th piece is the similar except that it has a notch cut into the top surface which is the key to the solution.
Build Instructions:
Cut wood to 3" wide
Set blade height to 1/2 of thickness to make the slot
Cut into sections - need 12 pieces
Cut notch in one of the pieces
Painted version
Made two of them. One stayed unfinished
Makes a nice ornament. Thanks for viewing.

We have a small tub full of burr puzzles, or as we always called them IQ puzzles. They make great conversation pieces or family game times together.

I've been on a puzzle making kick lately (see my other post). I have a stack of them on a table at work. It is interesting to watch people try to solve them. I really enjoy the really simple looking puzzles that require a trick to solve.
