I recently went to a craft fair where someone had taken some 2x4's, cut them at an angle, and put them on a stick for a tree. They were cute and gave me an idea to make something a little more whimsical.
I had a 1x6 sitting in my garage waiting to be something.
I drew out my design, just freehand.
I used a jigsaw to cut out the pieces.
I spaced them with a spare piece of wood and screwed a 1x2 into them.
All assembled.
For the base I cut a square from the 1x6, found the center and marked an off center box the size of the 1x2.
Perfect fit.
Ready for the flame.
I took a torch to it to burn some more definition into it.
I colored it using "Navaho Jewel" Unicorn SPiT then sealed it with Tung Oil Finish. In this picture you can see the top section is sealed while the others are not.
I forgot to get a picture of the other tree sealed before I sold it so here is another using the same technique completed. I did add a little wood glue to the base to stabilize it and called it done.
Enjoyed the project?
