DIY No-sew Bench Cushion

I'm not much of a sewer so when I needed to make a bench cushion for my banquette bench, I decided to go with this no-sew alternative that's easy, quick and inexpensive. My kind of project!

What you'll need: 2" foam (I used a bread knife to cut it) and 1/4" plywood cut the same size as your bench top (I had this done at the hardware store), batting, fabric (I used canvas drop cloth).

Cut your fabric so that it's 3.5" wider than the plywood, and the batting so that it's 2" wider than the plywood.

Staple the fabric to the plywood, starting from the middle, pulling tightly and smoothing out the fabric as you go. I love this stapler because it allows you to cock the trigger and easily release when you're ready!

Remove the excess fabric at the corners, and use a screwdriver to help get a nice sharp crease.

Step 4: To prevent the cushion from moving on the bench, I had originally used 3M command strips but after discovering Repositionable dots from Glue Dots, I gave that a try and with a few dots on the back of the plywood, the cushion stays put!

This cushion made my bench so comfy and it's now the most comfortable place to sit in my dining room!

This video shows how I built the bench and the cushion!

How thick was the batting that you used? I have a really old porch swing that's in great condition and apparently they don't make that size cushion (looked for five years...), so I'm going to have to make one... My mom isn't in the best of health, she wants to sit on it, but it's uncomfortable for her and I want to make it comfortable for her...). Anyhow, I've been using a few of some old chair cushions and those just aren't comfortable for her- do you have any ideas? I've tried putting some behind her thinking maybe I need to make a cushion for the back of the swing too, but then thought maybe I'm not using the right thickness or something... Btw, love your ideas, they aren't just for apartments...
