I have collected authentic or vintage grain sacks for a very long time.

I love them, however always found that burlap coffee bags didn't feel cozy. And other grain sack sizes were odd to create with. Most just wouldn't work with a standard pillow size.

That's when I decided to DIY my own!

A quick shopping trip to Ikea for pre-made goods was first on the list.

2nd, I designed some grain sack stencils that would ultimately stripe AND add a grain sack design to get the complete look.

Now I have the look, in my chosen colours and sizes. And I didn't even have to sew a thing... :)

Here are my favorite cheats:

My fav pillows:

My very fav cushion covers are from Ikea. They come in 20" and 26" in all colours and they stencil up beautifully!

Tip: I always get feather Ikea inserts. SO nice!

How to stencil:

  1. Place something waterproof inside the cover to avoid paint bleed.
  2. Position the first stencil on top, and tap the paint on.
  3. Once dry to the touch, add the 2nd design.
  4. Allow cover to dry, then add a pillow.

I first stenciled a barely-there stripe, then a design on top in a darker tone so it would stand out nicely.

Here's another! This pillow is a 26" Ikea cover with a scrumptious feather insert. Isn't it a beauty?

Once again, the stripe was stenciled first in a light tone, then the end design in a deeper tone.

Make a vintage slipcovered chair:

Anyone adore slipcovered chairs? Here's a great cheat!

This chair and slipcover were both purchased at Ikea. Assembly went so quick!

The chair slipcover was stenciled with a thick grain sack stripe using all the same steps as the pillows.

Boom! Instant vintage charm with so little effort!

All these vintage grain sacks were inspired after landing a beautiful antique bed....

Come on over and take the full room tour! The effect is stunning!

What do you think? Are you a fan of the vintage grain sack look too?
