How to make a sweatshirt pillow

Deconstruct the sweatshirt

Mark a cutline around the main design of your old sweatshirt, from just under the armholes and down both sides to above the waistband. Make the cutline slightly larger than the pillow you will insert. Cut out the design along the chalk lines, cutting both layers of fabric (front and back) so you end up with two equal-sized pieces.

Create the pillowcase

Keep the two pieces of fabric together, right-side out. Use a ruler and chalk to mark a dot every two inches along all four edges, about half an inch in from the edge. Now, use a heavy-duty single hole punch to punch a hole at each dot. Make sure the hole is going through both layers of fabric.

Using a grommet kit, follow the kit instructions to add grommets and islets along three sides of the pillow.

Finish the pillow

Insert your pillow between the two layers of fabric and then close up the fourth side of the pillowcase with grommets and eyelets.

Starting at the eyelet that is one in from the top left corner, weave ribbon through the eyelets. Start and finish your weaving with the ribbon at the front of the pillow. Now, tie the ends of the ribbon into a bow in the top left corner of the pillow.
