DIY Basket With Clothespins

This adorable little basket is made with Dollar Tree clothespins and an upcycled can, so it's only $1.25 to make! I used mine for my coffee pods, but it would also look cute in a bathroom or on a dresser or night stand to hold things.

I left mine plain, but you can use chalk paint or acrylic paint to paint your clothespins. You could also decorate the wood with washi tape for a pattern.

You will need the following to make a clothespin basket:

  • Clothespins - I used 17, but you may need more or less depending on the size of your can
  • Can - I used a can that I got cooked chicken in. I cleaned it and took off the label and glue.
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Start by taking apart the clothespins. They should come off of the metal piece pretty easily. Discard the metal pieces.

If you want to paint or stain your clothespins, you can do that now. Otherwise, run a thin line of hot glue on the flat side of the wood.

Then glue to the can. Repeat until the entire can is covered with clothespins.

Then use as a small basket. This is so easy to make, and you can make them in different sizes with short cans for inexpensive DIY organization baskets.

Did the can have sharp edges where the top was removed? How did you deal with that?

Could you use plastic clothespins that would be color instead of wood? Afraid they would break easily removing spring.
