DIY Coaster From Red "Solo" Party Cup "Jersey Girl Knows Best”
Did you know you can easily make a coaster out of a red "solo" type cup?! Me either, but you can and it's super easy! You probably already have all the materials at home. Ready?! Let's do this!
In a well ventilated area, preheat your oven or grill to 350 F. Get a red "solo" cup new or recycled (washed and dried). You can use any color "solo" cup, but make sure it's the same thickness as one of the standard ones. Use a black sharpie to create some designs or make this a craft project for kids. My daughter created this design Just remember it shrinks so the design will become smaller. Get a piece of wax paper or parchment paper and place it and the cup on a baking sheet.
Place the baking sheet into the oven and watch the magic happen!
The cup literally shrinks down and it becomes flat! It's amazing to watch with your oven light on! It takes about 2 minutes and it's done.
Once flat , remove it from the oven and let it cool completely. About another 2 minutes or so.
Once the coaster is fully cooled you can see that it's pretty thick and naturally waterproof! It would be great for your porch, deck or outdoor patio.
And there you have it! A DIY coaster ready for your beverage anytime of the day! This is such a great way to recycle all those cups that get thrown out during a gathering or party! You can even send them home with your guests to create there own coaster or use them like a small favor basket with the instructions to make their own coaster! The possibilities are endless! Happy DYI'ing!

Decades ago, we were having students draw on plastic meat trays, then shrank them in oven. I got so sick from the chemicals that were released, I have permanent disability from the exposure.
So, though this end result is lovely, think twice before heating any kind of plastic in ANY way.
