DIY Dollar Store Sensory Bags

Keeping twin toddlers occupied throughout the day can be super hard. They are constantly on the go, getting into anything and everything in sight. I’ve been trying to find different activities to do with them that are simple and stimulate their senses. When I was reading about sensory play and why it’s good to incorporate at a young age, I wanted to try it for myself.

I’ve seen so many different types of sensory bags on Pinterest, but I thought I would start out with a basic bag on a budget. So, I went to the Dollar Store to gather up all of my supplies. I was able to get everything for about $4!

The actual construction of a sensory bag is super easy. All you need to do is add hair gel (I went with clear, but you could add other colors) to a ziplock bag. You’ll want to add a good amount.

Next, add in fun objects like beads, foam pieces, small action figures, googly eyes – get creative!

Then, seal the ziplock bag and add duct tape around the outside of the bag to help reinforce the seams. My kids are rough with everything – I don’t trust them, especially with something sticky like hair gel!

Tommy and Evie loved pushing the beads around and squeezing the bag full of gel.
