I found these wooden candle holders for free, so I grabbed them and upcycled them into faux birch or aspen candle holders.

Here are the original candle holders that I got for free.

I started by painting the top with Folk Art Home Decor Chalk white paint. I painted both candle holders with 2 coats of paint and let them dry between each coat. Once they were painted I let them dry completely.

I also decided to keep the base as it was to pay tribute to the original candle holder.

Once the paint was dry I used Folk Art Home Decor Chalk black paint to create the lines you see on aspen and birch trees.

I realized the candle holders were not completely straight so putting taper candles in them might lead to a big mess down the road.

I pulled the bases off 2 dollar store solar lights and place them into the candle holders. They fit perfectly!
