Glue Gun Flowers
These striking flowers are easy to make, even with a broken glue gun.
Actually, its quite hilarious if you think about it: my 21-day lock-down horror story will be that my glue gun broke on day 10. But my fellow crafters will understand the gravity of the situation, all the shops are closed and I could get arrested for driving to borrow a glue gun. Which is why I am all the more pleased with the result of this project.
I took some old door knobs and placed them on a cardboard stand (and a vase because the one has a very long screw still attached) and sprayed them with non-stick cooking spray. They were two different sizes.
Working in batches I then made glue patterns. First a black batch and then white. But here was the swinger, my glue gun’s trigger was no longer working which meant that I had no control over the dribbling glue. And don't think for a moment that you can open the dastardly thing and fix it. I ended up forcing the cartridges through by hand whilst trying to control the direction with the other.
The other issue was that I had grabbed the only available coloured cartridges, black!!, the day before lockdown but now had no way of keeping the colours separate because of the trigger issue. And I really couldn’t afford to waste glue. Anyhow, I somehow made both black, white and ombreish grey petals.
Once dry, the petals were easy to peel from the knobs. Making holes in the centre of each wasn’t quite as easy and in order not to impale myself again (lockdown Day 1, project “ice-cream”, injurious tool: screwdriver) with a blunt skewer stick, I used a steak knife.
I then threaded first a large and then a smaller part through the skewer. You could also make round centers and thread them as the third part.
I cut some of the stems a little shorter so that they would look more natural and arranged them in a jar. Not bad for a glitchy glue gun!
