How To Upcycle a Wine Glass Into a Planter

In this easy tutorial I show you how to upcycle old branded wine glasses into pretty planters that you’ll want in your home.

I’m trying hard to de-clutter my cupboards. I have so many things that are too good to throw out, but I don’t want on display. I’ve already turned our unloved and broken mugs into planters, and love how they turned out. They now have pride of place in my sitting room and look fab.

Now I am tackling some glasses that I bought home from a gin festival. They are beautiful balloon gin glasses and have logos printed on both sides. But I can’t see myself ever using these as glasses so need a new use for them.

What I used to upcycle my glasses.

  • Plastic Adhesive Bumper Pads
  • Chalk Spray Paint

Top Tip: I’ve started using a rotating cake stand (Amazon Affiliate link) protected with a plastic bag when spray painting my crafts. It allows you to spin the object as you spray it rather than trying to move around the object. It does make the whole process much easier, so I highly recommend it if you do have a cake turntable to hand.

I started by sticking the adhesive bumper pads around my glass. They adhered well without having to use any extra glue.

Next I started applying the spray paint.

I was hoping for a professional finish with no drips, so I took care to use lots of thin layers and allowed each one to dry before applying the next.

I think the spray paint transforms the glass, and the bumper dots give it a unique look.

I’ve decided to use my upcycled wine glass as a planter, but a narrower one would also make a lovely vase or candle holder.
