Make Your Own Cookie Jar With This Quick & Easy Tutorial
I’m excited to share my latest DIY and show you how to make your own cookie jar. In this project, I transformed a simple glass bowl into a beautiful decorative cookie jar using some recycled materials and a few crafting supplies. It's a fun and easy way to give new life to old items. Here's how I did it.
DIY cookie jar
Tools and materials
- Glass bowl
- Cast-off metal piece (I used a part from an old fan)
- White gloss Rust-Oleum spray paint
- Wood round
- Scrapbook paper
- Mod Podge
- Sponge brush
- E6000 glue
- Scissors
- Pencil
1. Preparing the Pieces
First, I gathered my glass bowl and a discarded metal piece from an old fan, which I planned to use as the lid. I took both items outside and gave them a fresh coat of white gloss Rust-Oleum spray paint. This made them look clean and cohesive.
2. Creating the Lid
For the lid, I used a wood round. I placed the wood round on a piece of scrapbook paper and traced around it with a pencil. Then, I cut out the circle from the paper.
3. Applying Mod Podge
Next, I grabbed my Mod Podge and a sponge brush. I generously applied Mod Podge to the top of the wood round. Then, I carefully placed the cut-out scrapbook paper on top of the Mod Podge-coated wood.
4. Sealing the Paper
After positioning the paper, I added another layer of Mod Podge over the top of the scrapbook paper. This helped to seal the paper and give it a nice, smooth finish.
5. Assembling the Jar
Finally, I used E6000 glue to attach the painted metal piece to the top of the wood round, creating a lid for my new decorative jar. I let the glue dry completely before using it.
With the lid in place, my decorative jar was complete!
It’s now a lovely piece that adds charm to my home, and it’s hard to believe it was once just a simple glass bowl and some recycled materials.
