When redoing my bedroom furniture, I decided I need new lamps. I visited a local thrift store and found brass lamps for under $30 for both. I decided brass was out for me and my bedroom and decided I wanted to oil rubbed bronze to match my drawer pulls on the furniture. Everyone thought I was crazy to ruin good brass lamps, but they were not solid brass and bronze was what I was looking for.
I cleaned the lamps well with 409. I sanded down the brass a little to scuff it up to be sure paint would adhere better.
I had decided I wanted oil rubbed bronze lamps. I sprayed entire lamp with Rustoleum metallic paint in oil rubbed bronze. I thought the oil rubbed bronze was a little too brown, so I added Rustoleum Copper paint highlights with a very small paint brush to make it look more like my oil rubbed drawer pulls.
Finished product, looking brand new. I purchased new shades and I have beautiful bronze lamps for my night stands.

NancyMaria on Jan 21, 2017I also used that rubbed bronze paint and had to mix colors too to get the right color. I painted the bright brassy ceiling light bases. Love it!
