We had an impromptu craft day and my friends surprised me and brought the fronts off of drawers from an old sewing machine. We decided to use some slats from a damaged louvered door to connect the ends together to make a box. It looked good, but it was decided to stain the pieces with Jacobbean stain to make it look more cohesive. A bonus was that we had everything on hand and this didn’t cost a thing.

Here is the finished box. I’m loving it! Adding the stain on all the pieces was a great decision!

Here is a side view. We loved it, but we thought, let’s take it one step farther and put handles on it. So we started looking around to see what we had to use as handles.

An old leather belt was found. Perfect!

In order to attach it to the box, rivets were taken out at the ends using metal snippers.

The leather was cut rounded on the ends to mimick the rest of the handle. Those metal chunks above the belt are the rivets after they were taken out.

The handles will be attached here at the ends

The belt handles where the rivet originally was was used to drill a pilot hole.

Then attached to the ends of the box with these nails. They matched the rivets perfectly!

And here it is all done.

Side view.

Another view with a different bottle! Now, you could add plants , jars or nothing at all. It’s up to you!

I just loved getting together with my friends and making this! I hope you get inspired to make a box out of something unique you find too!
