How to Remove Old Wallpaper

Some homeowners are lucky to have thick wallpaper that is easily removed within minutes. On the flip side the thin sheets tear constantly so a little help is needed.
DIF does a great job of loosening up the adhesive. To reach the base paper score the wallpaper before applying the chemical. Another method is to use a steamer to soften up the adhesive, but you have to be careful about getting too much moisture on the wall.
Use a metal putty knife to remove the paper after treating it. The sharp edge helps to get underneath the wallpaper.
Steaming or DIF both work to remove tough wallpaper.

I use the cheapest fabric softener that our box store carries. I score the wallpaper first using the wallpaper tool, and then I fill a spray bottle with warm water. I add about 1/2 cup of fabric softener...spray it on and let it set for just a little while...what doesn't come off with the first application, then re spray. The fabric softener makes the house smell soooo good!..haha...its a win win!
