Map It Out - A Hallway Makeover!
Who says a hallway has to be boring? Not here! This hallway in my parents' house originally featured a painted mural with brick and vines. Talk about picturesque! I thought it needed a bit of an identity makeover though so we applied a fresh coat of beige paint and personalized the décor by framing and hanging a series of old canoe trail maps y dad had been collecting over the years. No need to leave this house for an outdoor adventure :)
This is the mural that was in the hallway which my sister had painted quite a few years back. Since my parents might be selling their house in a few years I started re-decorating their home with a more neutral palette to appeal to future buyers and to freshen everything up a bit.
I started by sanding the walls down to get rid of any paint marks from the mural then painted the walls a brownish-beige that would tie in to all the wood.
My dad has TONS of old canoe trail maps that are marked by his excursions and years of trips. He'd been keeping them in a box in his room but I thought it would make for good memories to see them hanging in the hallway. I picked some from his most traveled routes and framed them in high quality matching fames.
I hanged the maps at the same height around the hallway to make it look like a gallery. The lighter paint also makes the hallway look much more open!
Let me know that you think of the transformation! This could also be done with any kind of artwork or pictures :)
