Permanent Chalkboard Art

I love chalkboard art and the fact that I can change it based on my mood or the season but there are times when I want the look but need something a little less likely to get smudged or erased accidentally.
I made my first one for a friend who was getting married. It turned out pretty good so I decided to do one for fall. I have a chalkboard that I made using a sheet of metal and an old frame. I painted the metal with chalkboard paint. Now it is a chalkboard and magnectic! I purchased painter's canvas boards from the craft store... use your coupons or watch for sales. I gave it two coats of chalkboard paint I had on hand. Allow to dry, thoroughly.
I drew my design on paper. You don't have to be an artist. Make something on your computer or download a design. You can find free printables all over the internet. Use a coloring book page, ect.
Now enlarge the picture to fit your canvas. I had to do this in four stages. I taped them together to make one large print.
Turn the print over and rub it down with a piece of white chalk. Attach it, chalk side down, to your canvas using tape. Trace your design with a pencil or pen.
Lift you paper. Now your design is on the board. I used chalk paint pens to go over my design. When the chalk paint ink was dry I went over it again just to fill in any light areas. Allow to dry, thoroughly.
Clean the original chalk markings off the board with a soft paint brush. If you smudged any of the paint pen clean it off with a q-tip and water. Spray with Krylon Matte Finish. I attached magnets to the back so it would just sit on my existing chalkboard but I can take it off and keep it for years to come.
