Giving an Old Throw Rug a New Look

"Everything Old is New Again" is my motto. If it can be upcycled or refurbished I am going to find a way to do it. As I have told you in an earlier post we are remodeling our bathroom. I need new throw rugs but, I got to thinking why not find a way to dress up the rugs I already have. In my fabric supply, I have a large piece of black burlap. PERFECT, why not cover the old rugs with the burlap. Considering the fact that I had everything that I need the project cost me nothing and I got a new rug!! You can use any fabric that you have on hand. It does not have to be burlap.
This is the rug before I did anything to it.
The next thing I did was iron the burlap so that it was nice and smooth. Then I laid it out on the table and laid the rug on top to cut the piece to the size I needed. I cut it large enough to overlap the rug. Next step is to spray the entire front of the rug with adhesive spray and then lay the burlap on the rug. Be very careful, as you want the burlap to be smooth.
Once you have smoothed out the burlap flip the rug over and cut into each corner at an angle.
Spray adhesive spray along the edge of the rug and fold the burlap over. Do this on each side of the rug.
Trim the corners to remove the pointed tips.
Flip the rug right side up. You have a new rug without going to the store and buying a new one.
