Hi, I'm Amber Oliver! I hope if you enjoy this project you'll also stop by my blog!

When we moved in our house, one of the first things we wanted to change was the exterior of the house. This was easy enough because LANDSCAPING can dramatically change the appearance of your home! This is a relatively easy way to update your home quickly and easily.

This front flower bed looked HIDEOUS! We had a big pecan tree that had to be taken out and once that was done, the front flower bed was now in the FULL SUN for most of the day. I had to choose strategically what to plant because we live in Houston, TX so we get a LOT of sun and it gets HOT!

After clearing the flower bed it already looked SO MUCH BETTER! This was a lot of weed pulling and digging. We also had a professional come to grind the stump. This left the flower bed quite uneven and in hindsight we should have added a bit more soil. Be sure to do this if you are ever in this situation!

Now it was time to plan the layout and choose our plants. We needed plants that would grow well in the full sun. We chose Yopaun Holly and Gardenia for the bushes, Agapanthus for the largest flowers, and filled in with pentunia and celosia. We also planted some hostas because we thought they would get enough shade on the side of the flower bed but they ended up dying :(

Here's what the finished flower bed looked like. We also installed low voltage landscape lighting!
